Measnet Member CEPRI Leads Land Based Lidar Performance Verification Campaign in China
• The campaign, organized in collaboration with the Wind Energy Generation Systems Committee of the Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 50), ran from 1 November to 31 December 2025.
• Conducted in accordance with the IEC 61400 50 2 standard, the initiative brought together 15 companies and 29 Lidar systems, including both manufacturers and users.
Madrid, 2026.03.12.- LiDAR technology is increasingly deployed in the wind energy sector for both wind turbine type certification and wind resource assessment, making standardized performance evaluation essential.
To support this progress, the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) —a Measnet member from 2019— together with the Wind Energy Generation Systems Committee of the Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 50), launched a land-based Lidar performance verification and comparison campaign at CEPRI’s test site in Inner Mongolia. It ran from 1 November to 31 December 2025.
Conducted in accordance with the IEC 61400-50-2 standard, the initiative brought together 15 companies and 29 Lidar systems, including both manufacturers and users. Throughout the campaign, eight key performance indicators were assessed, enabling a thorough comparison of the participating Lidar technologies. The project was completed successfully and on schedule.

As Fu Deyi, Senior Technical Expert at CEPRI and Coordinator of the Measnet Remote Sensing Expert Group, highlighted: “It was wonderful for us to organize a comprehensive verification and comparison of the performance of the different Lidars.”
Following data analysis, all participants gathered at the end of January 2026 to discuss results and future steps.
